Segway the Door Peninsula State Park - Copy

Peninsula Personality Profile

Nick Dokolas, Owner and manager, Segway the Doors Tours

What’s your role with the business?

As owner and manager of Segway the Door Tours, I make sure that the FUN SEEKERS (those that make a reservation for a tour) and tour guides are taken care of to the best of my ability. I take reservations and answer questions late into the night and early in the morning on a daily basis. I monitor reservations and scheduling and occasionally get to do what I like best; give tours.

Where do you live?

I live in Green Bay, Wis., most of the time but occasionally in Sister Bay during the Segway the Door Nick photo Pen Profile Pic usesummer.

What’s a typical day like for you?

I start taking reservations in the morning. Throughout the day I monitor the business operations, assign tours for the next day, take reservations, and answer FUN SEEKER questions.

When you’re not working, what do you like to do in Door County?

I like to hike, disc golf, and take the Segway around.

I understand you are a former teacher; what attracted you to the tourism industry?

After I got married and first started coming up to Door County, I had a hard time finding fun things to do and interesting places to visit. When I learned that Segway tours were starting to pop up in the big cities, I thought it would be a perfect match for Door County. I really enjoy learning about and sharing the beauty and rich history of Door County and the Segway facilitates this.

You offer so many tours in Door County from Peninsula State Park to rural Egg Harbor; what makes this mode of touring special?

Segway Tours are great for everyone. Some people want to experience the beauty and history of Door County and some people just want to have fun on the Segway. On a Segway Tour with us you get to experience both. The reason we offer so many tours is because there are so many unique places in Door County that are worth learning about and seeing.

Why is Door County a good place for a glide?

Door County has historic and beautiful places and very little traffic on some roads. This is where I chose to offer Segway Tours.

Sturgeon Bay
For so long, most people heading to Door County would by-pass Sturgeon Bay to get to the “real” Door County. Not so anymore! Long overlooked, Sturgeon Bay has seen a wonderful resurgence over the past 10 years or so. We love the restoration of 3rd Avenue in Downtown Sturgeon Bay; we love the beautiful B&Bs in Sturgeon Bay; and we love the many new waterfront resorts we have discovered in Sturgeon Bay! And there are some super restaurants, harbors, festivals and more too! Great art galleries like AMO Gallery and Framery, cafes like Kick Coffee on Third Avenue, shops like the Dancing Bear. Great home made fudge and gourmet popcorns at the Copper Kettle – wow! This trip, think about staying in the Bay - Sturgeon Bay!

Bridgeport Waterfront Resort, Bay Shore Inn and Westwood Shores Waterfront Resort are wonderful examples of relatively new resorts that have been done in a first-class tradition. You can read our reviews at our Review/Places to Stay section.

In addition, many other resorts in Sturgeon Bay, like Stone Harbor Resort and Conference Center, add to the rich selections you have available to you - all in Sturgeon Bay.

The Bridgeport Waterfront Resort, for example, offers well appointed 1, 2 and 3 bedroom suites, but also has a heated outdoor pool that even has a waterfall, an indoor pool as well, and even a recreation center that has an indoor children’s play park. And guests can use complimentary bikes, row boats, paddle boats, and even a tennis court! We love it! Very nice place! Read our Trusted Review!
