It is just at the top of the hill in Fish Creek, go up 42, to F, go on F and turn left into their lot, park the car and look around. This is an artsy place, with a serene environment that says you have escaped all that you have wanted to escape!
Founded in 1965, the PAS campus houses over 8,000 square feet of classroom, gallery, gardens, and a beautiful outdoor gazebo. It filed for non-for-profit status in 1993, and so accepts donations from patrons and those who just love this place.
A terrific new building has recently been christened, which allows for expansion and better facilities for hosting art exhibitions and special programs, and for teaching wonderful classes year round. So you think you can't take a class there? You can! Especially children! On Saturday mornings, they have children's programs - you can drop your kids off at the School, and pick them up a couple of hours later - and the programs are very well run and economical. Our daughter loves it! She went to one class there on pointillism (when she was 5!) and painted a very lovely piece of work! Their "Youth Art"section offers drawing, cartooning, metalsmithing, exploring clay, an arts and crafts adventure camp and other creative offerings.
Do check this out - it really is a great experience not only for kids, but for adults as well! They have dozens and dozens of classes from watercolor painting and ceramics, to photography and at every level! How about "faux finishes for furniture?"Print making, field sketching, portrait drawing, landscapes, papermaking for painters? Yep! Even basketry, kaleidoscope design, and stone carving. Well, you get the idea . . . and if you don't you're sure to get one here!
There are 2 to 7 day workshops, from the very beginner to the master level - the offerings are comprehensive. They also do "co-ops", which are generally evening sessions, where a leader is assigned (not an instructor) to lead group discussions, critiques and more. Some workshops can even count towards undergraduate college credit. Many of the local artists teach at the School. And they have lectures, discussions and a whole lot more! It is truly a unique experience! PAS publishes a comprehensive catalogue/newspaper guide to all the classes - pick one up right there at the School, or call them and we are sure they will send one out.
Their office hours are 9AM - 5PM, Monday through Saturdays; the Guenzel Gallery is open the same hours with the addition of noon to 3PM on Sundays. This gallery hosts like of different exhibits from emerging artists to regional sculpture events. The gallery exhibits Door County, regional and even national artists. And the classrooms are open 9AM - 9PM, Monday through Friday; 9AM to 5PM on Saturdays. Always check with PAS for current schedules, offerings, tuition fees and times.
There are many fine places to lodge nearby, many of which are reviewed on the site.
