What a concept!  What an idea!  What a find!   In a small shop on the north end of Fish Creek, easy to drive by and miss, is the Oilerie™ Olive Oil Bar.™   “What are you talking about?” you ask.

This small shop offers small batches of extra virgin olive oil, which you can sample by gently turning the spigot on one of about 11 urns in the shop.  There are offerings like Organic Extra Virgin – a flavor, as they say on their brochure, of “ripe olives with hints of green apple.”    This one we sampled and loved – so we bought a bottle.  There’s also Australian Barnea, California NuEVO EVODO, Greek, Spanish Arbequina EVODO and more.

Then there are some specialty oils like Porcini Olive Oil – another of our favorites sampled (and another bottle purchased), Blood Orange, Garlic, Roasted Walnut Oil, and – get ready – 18 year old Balsamic Vinegar in a traditional style.  This also was fabulous – thick and rich.  There’s also a 12 year old white balsamic and a Raspberry Wine Vinegar – all for your tasting pleasure.

We met Curt once at a festival – he makes some great spices for mixing in dips, cooking and more – and they are all carried here in the shop.

Some of the oils are great for dipping, some better suited for cooking or baking – a little sign above each tells you the story, and they’ll give you an informative brochure with sample recipes for you to try.

When you select your favorites, they will bottle them up for you in a 12.7 ounce bottle, and professionally cork it, seal it and tag it with a metal tag with the name of the oil.  On the reverse of the tag, they put the date you made the purchase – nice touch – so you can remember later when it was you purchased the oil!

We think this is a great idea – a perfect place for the person who loves to cook and prepare great food, and who just loves to enjoy some of the best olive oils around.  And what a perfect gift a bottle or two of the oil and/or balsamics would make for your special friend or relative.
