Wow!
What a cool place! The Little Sister Resort and Fred & Fuzzys
Bar & Grill represent what we love about Door County. Honestly folks,
we came across this place purely by accident. While traveling the door
just North of Ephraim we saw a little sign off to the left reading Fred
& Fuzzys waterfront bar and grill. Our first thought
was, hey, weve never been here! It didnt take
us long to decide we wanted to check it out (besides, we were thirsty!).
Like we said, its North of the village of Ephraim, so to find
it just look for the sign on the left as you approach Sister Bay.
You
will travel down what the locals refer to as little sister hill
and the driveway entrance is right at the bottom. We could hardly wait
to see what was in store for us as we traveled down the winding black
topped road that lead us to a small parking area. The scenery is beautiful!
The resort and waterfront bar are set in a wonderful friendly cedar
woods with stone fences and pathways leading to quaint cottages and
chalets. From here we walked down a path towards the water hoping find
out, just who are these guys, Fred and Fuzzy!?! To find out what we
discovered, check out our separate review of Fred
and Fuzzys Waterfront Bar & Grill! To find out more about
the resort amenities, read on!
The
Little Sister Resort is definitely one of the few remaining authentic
Door County resorts still operating on the peninsula. Its location is
both stunning and quaint; isolated yet offering all the comforts of
home, complete with the amenities and scenic beauty that have made Door
County a popular vacation destination for decades. There are 13 cottages,
three homes and six chalets spread out over 20 acres with over 400 feet
of private shoreline for you to enjoy. Many of the cottages offer a
water view. With so many different styles of accommodations to choose
from, the Little Sister Resort is perfect for any size group.
Cottages
come with small refrigerators, cable TV, full bathrooms with standing
showers; bedroom, and some have screened in porches. All the cottages
we were in were very clean and well kept. Chalets are larger than the
cottages and feature full kitchens, living rooms and wood burning fireplaces.
Yes, we did say wood burning fireplaces! Is there anything better than
sitting in front of the fireplace listening to the crackle of wood burning?
Besides, the wood is free! All the cottages and chalets come with light
housekeeping services. There are also three nice homes on the property
that are very secluded and perfect for families or couples who want
a more space.
OUR
FAVORITES
The number 16 chalet is part of a duplex situated along side Bay Ridge
golf Course with a large wrap around deck that provides an awesome view
of willow trees and a pond that decorate the number seven fairway. It
features a vaulted ceiling over the combination dining room/living room.
The living room has a sleeper sofa, recliner rocker and a nice table
for four. There is a great full kitchen with a window providing a view
of the golf course. There are two spacious bedrooms, one with a queen
bed and the other with two twin beds. This chalet has plenty of room
for up to six people utilizing the sleeper sofa. The large wrap around
deck is fantastic for hanging out with friends and family and the view
is really nice.
We
got in many cottages and found all of them really nice. They are placed
around the property among the cedar trees with pathways leading to the
water and the large dining complex. Cottage 20 is said to be the most
popular and we really liked as well. It has a view of the marina through
the trees. This cottage has a living room dining room combination and
a kitchenette. A great limestone wood burning fireplace, pine trim throughout
and cable TV complete this very cozy cottage. Looking for something
a little bigger? Check out cottage 21, it sleeps six and has a nice
kitchenette and a screened in porchnice. Cottage 23 is absolutely
adorable and perfect for honeymooners. It is a true Door County cottage
with a stone fireplace (wood burning), white washed lap-siding, carpeted
floor, lots of windows and a nice queen bed.
DINING
AT
LITTLE SISTER
Truly something special about the Little Sister Resort is the unique
dining experience that comes with staying there. They offer a modified
American plan that includes breakfast and dinner. The meals are included
as a part of your stay and are offered from mid June through the 3rd
week of August. They are served in the resort dining room centrally
located on the property. This dining room is really quite nice, very
relaxing and cozy and all in all provides a wonderful place to have
meals with your family. It has a large cabin feel with vaulted ceilings,
exposed trusses, wood tables made from the old Sister Bay bowling alley,
skylights, plenty of wild game mounts and of course a large stone wood
burning fireplace. There is also a covered deck with even more seating.
Breakfast is served from 8 am until 10 am and dinner is served from
6 to 7pm. Gosh, we really were impressed with this set up, just take
a look at some of the meals they serve; Door County fish boil, fresh
whitefish steaks, onions, baby red potatoes, coleslaw, homemade rye
bread and cherry pie. Also included with this meal is a cocktail hour
on the dock with smoked and pickled fish and beer and soda served as
well. On Tuesdays they offer pork roast or Swedish meatballs. The pork
roast is served glazed with cranberries, wild rice, vegetable of the
day, salad bar, and soups and home made desserts. Other tasty meals
feature fried chicken, BBQ ribs, ham, whitefish, vegetable lasagna and
roast sirloin.
