Places to Stay : Fish Creek

Fish Creek Motel & Cottages
9479 Spruce St
Fish Creek, WI 54212
920-868-3448

The Fish Creek Motel, with 12 rooms on two levels, has a great location near the water, shops, restaurants and, well, just about everything in fantastic Fish Creek.  It’s doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles. But if you are looking for a clean place, a good value and a walk-to-town locale, this may be for you.

Checking in
Now, you actually check-in at another hotel just a block away called the Cedar Court Motel & Cottages at 9429 Cedar St. (at Cedar and Maple Streets, Fish Creek.) You will see an American flag and an “office” sign hanging from a white building.  The manager of this inn, Bob Martin, also oversees Fish Creek Motel, too.

Intriguing history
But make sure you stop in the reception area at Fish Creek Motel sometime during your stay. You can pick up brochures about area attractions here.

Also, check out the vintage photograph on the wall behind the desk. It shows the Fish Creek Motel, once known under a different name in Ephraim, being moved across the water on May 12, 1981.  That’s something you don’t see every day!

Rooms
There are twelve rooms on two levels: 10 have two queen-size beds, and two rooms each have a king-size bed.

Each room is 12 feet by 24 feet with two entries: one door to your room is on the back side of the motel (where you can park your car). Another door leads you to a covered porch on the top level or to a patio on the lower level. This is a shared outdoor space with other guests. It’s nice to have that access, and there are furnishings, so you can sit outdoors and take in the pretty view of the harbor, boats and water.

All accommodations include coffeemaker, wireless Internet, TV/cable, phone and air conditioning.  Refrigerators and microwaves are 2009 additions.
Each room also has a private bath with tub/shower combination. And there is a table with two chairs situated near the large window.

“It’s your basic motel. These are old rooms and people know they are old. But they are clean and a good value for the buck,” Bob says.

The Fish Creek Motel is popular with seniors, bikers, boaters and others, Bob said.

Fantastic location
The Fish Creek Motel is situated on a quiet street, yet it is near a lot of popular attractions.  You can walk up Cedar Street, which is lined with shops and restaurants.   Nearby is Fish Creek’s Main Street and Founders Square, which has shops specializing in bath products, home décor, clothing and much more.

Also within walking distance are popular Door County restaurants including C&C Supper Club, Pelletier’s Restaurant, The White Gull Restaurant and Whistling Swan Restaurant as well as the Blue Horse Bistro and Mr. Helsinki’s.

“Here, it truly is walk-to-everything. You can park your car and walk. This is honestly in-town,” Bob says.

Indeed it is.

Nearby attractions
But when you want to move your car and get out of town, there are a lot of things to see and do in on the Door Peninsula.

Bob, who has been in the lodging business for 36 years, likes to advise guests to first take a tour so they can see all the major sites: state parks, lighthouses and natural attractions like Cave Point.

Then, he says people can “specialize” from there. They may choose biking, fishing, the arts, shopping and golfing.

If you are on a budget or if prefer to stay in a place that is truly within walking distance to many Fish Creek attractions, then reserve a room at Fish Creek Motel. And please tell them DoorCountyNavigator.com sent you.
