Places to Stay : Ephraim

Harbor View Resort

Ephraim

If you are looking for a quiet place to stay which is also a short walk to the town, and has one fabulous view of the glistening waters of Green Bay, then read on as we review Harbor View in Ephraim.

Ephraim is a delightful town, with wonderful water views and Harbor View is named right – view and location are king and queen here! Built in 1972, you won’t find whirlpools or swimming pools, but a very well-kept property that looks better today than ever! Tucked away on the bluff overlooking the harbor and town of Ephraim, people keep coming back! And the sunsets over the bay are incredible!

We met with Kay Wilson, and took a tour of some the 10 suites (in 3 buildings) that are offered, and one of the 4 cabins too.

The Accommodations
Our first stop was unit # 9, a 2 bedroom, 2 bath unit. Walk in, take a few short stops upstairs and you are in the vaulted-ceiled living room/great, with plaid couch, a couple of comfy chairs, TV and a wood-burning fireplace (and they supply the wood). Clean, comfortable and roomy. Outside the window, you get a beautiful view of the harbor, the steeple of the Lutheran church rising against the bay and Horseshoe Bay island – very nice!

The fully-equipped kitchen has plenty of cabinet and countertop space, microwave, coffeemaker and all the appliances. The dining area, just ahead of the kitchen, overlooks a private deck, and basically the same view as the living room - wonderful!

Down the stairs, the hallway leads to the bedrooms and baths. The bedroom to the left has two twin beds (great for kids), beige carpeting, with windows above the beds, standard lamps and nightstands dresser, mirror and a large closet. Very nice.

From the hallway, a bathroom is to the right, which is very well lit, has a tub/shower unit, and colorful wallpaper. At the end of the hall is the master bedroom with queen bed, a TV, nightstands, large chest of drawers, it own bathroom (nice), and blue and white wallpapers. Lots of close space too – a plus!

There is a washer and dryer in the basement of this building for everyone’s use – nice convenience if you are staying for a longer timeframe.

Off we went to unit # 6, a one bedroom, one bath unit, in the next building ahead (towards the water). Walk in, and ahead, and you are in the great room/living room, with plaid couch, a couple of comfortable cushion chairs, wood-burning fireplace, and TV. The kitchen has lots of dark-wood cabinets and plenty of counter space, an island, linoleum flooring, microwave etc. as the other kitchen above. A round dining table with 4 chairs sits in the dining area, where a wheat motif wallpapered wall with a distressed-blue window pane mirror completes the look. The dining area leads to a deck which faces the water, and the living room offers similar fantastic view of the harbor, islands and bluffs as # 9 did – truly beautiful!

The bedroom sports a queen bed, tasteful blue floral wallpaper and a TV. This is a very nicely sized room, with the bed flanked by nightstands and lamps, a chest of drawers, and great closet space. The room is large, buy comfy and warm.

The bathroom has a blue and yellow plaid wallpaper, coordinated shower curtain across the tub/shower and plenty of vanity space. Well lit, bright and well done.

Unit # 2 in a 4 unit building closet to the edge of the bluff and water, is a one bedroom, one bath suite. The living room, similar to the others, has a plaid couch and comfortable cushioned chairs, TV, and a wood-burning fireplace with rough-hewn wood mantel and surround. The view from this room is awesome – the best! The Moravian church to the left, the Luther church to the right and water, eater everywhere! The kitchen is similar to # 6 above, and has a round table and 4 steel and cane chairs in the dining area. The bedroom, a nice size has a blue floral wallpaper.

We then went to view a 2-story, 2 bedroom townhouse unit, #3. You walk in and the kitchen is to the left, and living room ahead, similar to the others. Here, a corner fireplace is surrounded by the rough-hewn mantel and woods. The room leads out to a nice private deck. A half-bath is on the main floor.

Upstairs are the two bedrooms the master bedroom with a queen bed, nightstand, lamps, writing desk and closet. And one very nice view of the treetops and water in the distance. Between the two bedroom is the bathroom and shower – a nice pocket door slides closed between the vanity room and the toilet and shower area – nice touch. The second bedroom has two twin beds, great again for traveling with kids, or other adults too (like a couple of women who can share a room).

The Cabins
Lastly, we took a look at one of the 4 available cabins (two 1 BRs, one 2 BR, and one 3 BR): the Eagle. Part of the Pioneer Acres Cottages offered, the Eagle has a very rustic look and feel to it, from the wooden snowshoes and antlers on the whole-log walls, to the fieldstone fireplace. In the living room area on the first floor, is a couch in front of the fireplace, and another against a back wall, some chairs and a half-log stairway leading up to the bedrooms. The dining room downstairs is small but cozy, with a rustic table and chairs, a stucco fireplace/hearth, and other accessories. The kitchen is very small, and basic, but has what you need to do some in-cabin cooking. The bathroom, off the dining room, is also small and rustic.

Upstairs, three bedrooms await you, as well as a loft overlooking the living room. One bedroom has twin beds, a white dresser and mirror, vaulted ceiling; another bedroom has 2 twin beds also, and similar furnishings; the last bedroom has a double bed, a vaulted log ceiling, log dresser, and wood floor.

Overall, a nice cabin for about 6 people. Three other cabins are available too.

Check it out!
With all Harbor View has to offer, we recommend you checking it out. Between the view, the location (easy to walk down the bluff to the town) and the nice units themselves, we think you will find Harbor View a very nice place to stay, in a most charming town.
