Places to Stay : Ephraim
The Private Shoreline Though not a beach, we make special note of the shoreline because it is awesome. The Edgewater maintains over 400 feet of private shoreline for its guests. It is very much a park-like setting with stone fences, benches and a truly spectacular view of Eagle Harbor. Jutting out from the landscape across the harbor is Peninsula State Park. You can drive there in just a few minutes (head south to the main entrance located on north end of Fish Creek). The Original Hotel
The Rooms We toured several rooms and the first thing we noticed upon entering room # 106, is a very bright, fresh and airy atmosphere. The view of the water from the second story is outstanding. Entering, a full kitchen is to your left and offers lots of cabinet space both above and below the countertop areas. Opposite this area is a large counter top breakfast bar that has a double stainless steel sink and a built in dishwasher, with four chairs and plenty of space to enjoy breakfast or a quick snack. To the right are two storage closets, while ahead is the living room. It has a chest/trunk that serves as a coffee table, light green and blue furniture (queen sleeper sofa & chair); end tables, a whicker chair and a gas fireplace with TV and VCR built in over the mantel. Lots of windows provide plenty of sunlight, while a door leads another retreat - a very large, covered veranda. Not only is the veranda a great place to enjoy the water view, it is also a perfect place to watch the activities of the people passing by and of course, catch a glorious Door County sunset. The master bedroom is fully carpeted and features a hot tub in the corner, TV, a king size bed, a large bay window, and a full bathroom with standing shower. There is also a door leading to the veranda from the bedroom nice touch. We also toured room #112 in the “middle building” and #122 in the “post office” building. The post office building was originally built in 1874 and was a general store until it was used as Ephraim’s post office in the early 1900’s. Now it is doing double-duty: up on the second story are four fabulous suites (including room #122). Below, on the first floor, there is a great restaurant! THE OLD POST OFFICE RESTAURANT You enter this restaurant by stepping on to a large covered porch. Comprised of two rooms, it features hardwood floors, wainscoted walls, a fireplace and cloth covered tables with wicker caned dining chairs. Talk about a great place to start the day! Waterfront dining in a bright cherry atmosphere. The restaurant serves breakfast and nightly fish boils only. Breakfast menu includes omelets, pancakes (buttermilk, cherry or blueberry), Belgian waffles and French toast. In addition, a great variety of lighter entrees include fruits, juice, yogurt, toast and muffins. The fish boil, prepared with traditional Door County flair over a roaring open fire complete with boil over, consists of steaks of fresh whitefish, small red potatoes, white onions, homemade lemon, pumpkin and rye breads, and fresh baked Door County Cherry Pie. The restaurant is open from May thru October. Breakfast is served daily. Fish boils served Monday thru Saturday evenings and Sundays on holiday weekends. Outdoor seating is available. Groups welcome. Non-smoking. Chicken and ribs are available as an alternative to fish, and hotdogs provided for the children. Always check with them for the latest details! Read our Old Post Office review!
