Food/Dining : Sturgeon Bay

The Pudgy Seagull
113 N. 3rd
Sturgeon Bay
920-743-5000

The Pudgy Seagull is a regular family-type restaurant in the heart of Sturgeon Bay. When you enter, you can anticipate the type of menu you will encounter, and the type of entrees that will be offered. Opened for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the Pudgy Seagull might be a nice respite from the typical restaurants families seek out while on vacation.

The decor is simple: there are wood-slat booths, Formica tables, and standard restaurant chairs. The walls are oak wainscoting, about three-quarters up the wall. Nice touch, and some homey stenciling as well. There is a smoking and non-smoking section, but unfortunately, you walk into the smoking section. We feel you should always defer to walking into the non-smoking section.

The Food
The standard breakfast fare is offered, including eggs, muffins, cakes, omelets and more in the reasonable price range of about $3 - $6. Lunch items include lots of burgers, a BLT, lots of subs, and more. We had a Black Forest (which is grilled dark rye with Swiss roast beef and turkey), which was very tasty, well prepared, and served with chips. We also had a hot beef sandwich, which came on a freshly made home-made roll – also nicely spiced and worth it.

Dinners include a shrimp basket, a perch plate, grilled ham, chopped beef, chicken dishes, pressure fired pork chops and a whole lot more. You can also order from a variety of salads: taco, chef, car-chicken, crab, shrimp, seafood, and a vegetarian.

We had so much to eat for lunch, including beef barley soup, which was good, that one of us had to pack some to go. Wouldn’t you know it? We walked out of the restaurant and forgot the “to-go” box on the table! Not to worry! Laura, our waitperson, came running out of the restaurant, across the street towards our car, and right up to us to return our forgotten package of left-overs! We were overwhelmed with her dedication – she came quite a distance to do us this favor! Thanks!

The Pudgy Seagull is a nice stop. And if you are there on a Sunday morning, you will see it loaded with families, and with lots of people saying “Hi” to each other. Kind of nice, and kind of what we all miss sometimes in life.
