Family Thyme
We stopped in the 2010 entry into the Sturgeon Bay restaurant scene to check it out.  Family Thyme restaurant occupies the same space that Sage used to be in.  So we wanted to see what the new restaurant brought to the table, literally!

It's a friendly atmosphere when you walk in, as many family photos adorn the walls and some original artwork by Angie, one of the owners.  Also old photos of the property from another era provide some history to the place as well.  We found the menu to be quite extensive, with just about something for everyone.  From simple sandwiches to dull dinners, you can dine here and be content.  They offer about 14 or more local Door County wines, from the wineries in the area which is nice.  We have tested some of these wines from the wineries and some are just outstanding. They also offer some local beers from Shipwrecked (in Egg harbor), as well as some standard beers like Corona, Sam Adams, Coors, Blue Moon and others.

And, yes, it is family friendly, and they have a children's menu as well.

Our Food

We ordered a burger and a fish entree to test it out.

The blue cheese burger with bacon was enormous and thick.  It came with hand cut potato wedges which were dusted with seasonings, onion, bacon, blue cheese.  Our reviewer thought the burger was very flavorful, and the patty itself has seasonings built-in.  Because of the seasonings, this may be an adult burger, as kids may want to order from the kids menu.  But delicious?  Yes indeed!

I wanted salmon, but was drawn to the whitefish.  It was plated with roasted vegetables (squash, onions, red peppers), and was a large portion.  The baked whitefish was lightly seasoned with paprika and dill.  The texture was tender, but firm which is how I like it.   The accompanying salad was greens, tomato and onion, which was adequate and fresh.  The fish was fresh and not over-seasoned as you get sometimes, so you can taste the delicate flavor of the fish itself.  We liked it!

The prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food that you get.  Afterwards, we met with the owners, Angie and James (who is also the chef), and told them we enjoyed the meal and would be back.

We discovered that they cut their own fries and potato wedges, they patty and season their own meat for the burgers, and they make all their own sauces.  Fish arrives once or twice a week.  We also spoke with a bunch of locals before we went in, and they all recommended it and frequent the new establishment - always a good sign!

Other menu entrees include salmon, Cajun chicken, a 10 ounce tenderloin, grilled vegetable platter, chicken Marsala, Margarita fajitas, a stir fry and southwester kabobs.  Sandwiches offers are things like a turkey club, a seafood delight (strips of salmon or whitefish, sautéed in white wine, garlic, zucchini, and layered over fresh lettuce), Southern Grilled Chicken Club and more.  Kid's menu has pasta and sauce, a mini-stir fry, chicken nuggets, hamburgers and lots more.

Naturally there are salads, soups and desserts.

Plenty of seating inside at the tables and bar, and there is also limited sidewalk seating out front!  Very nice.

We enjoyed Family Thyme restaurant here in Sturgeon Bay, and we think you will find the food very good and the prices very reasonable!  So when you are walking down historic Third Avenue in Sturgeon Bay, stop in for lunch or dinner at Family Thyme - they are open 7 days a week, and will be open year-round.  And oh, please tell Angie, James and the staff that DoorCountyNavigator.com sent you in!
