Food/Dining : Fish Creek

White Gull Inn
4225 Main St.
920-868-3517
W, B/L/D (incl. Fish Boils)

This is the Inn of Inns and one of the most wonderful places on earth for breakfast! This Inn was built in 1896, and it is charming, elegant and meticulously run from clapboard to clapboard! Breakfasts in this country inn's dining rooms include daily specials, which include a cherry or blueberry coffee cake slice – get one – it's delicious! Get the best pancakes topped with Door County cherries, or oatmeal topped with mountains of fruit! The egg dishes are simply terrific – we have never had anything but great food at this Inn! Dinners include a variety of specials, and in the summer, there are 4 nights a week (Wed, Friday, Saturday and Sunday) that they prepare the very popular Door County Fish Boil – a tradition dating back to the early settlers of the Door. This is a sight to see as they prepare the fish outside in the beautiful surroundings of the Inn out back, and a huge pot is boiled up! It's great to see and great to eat. The menu changes the rest of the days, and sometimes includes things like beef Wellington, fresh lake fish, and other fine dining dishes – Julie, the kitchen manager, keeps things moving efficiently and with high quality!

They also serve very delicious lunches, soups, and creative sandwiches. Jan and Andy Coulson, the Innkeepers, are the nicest folks in the world, and are often in and about the place working hard to keep their customers very happy! And Julie, the kitchen manager – keeps the food coming fast and delicious! The lines will be long in the mornings for breakfasts, especially on the weekends. So if you plan to be here for several days, we suggest you take in a breakfast on a weekday morning. If not, you'll wait a while – but it is worth it. And while you wait, you might take a stroll down to Sunset Park – take a left as you exit the Inn and walk down to the water – go down onto the stones right up to the shore and skip a few! It is a truly wonderful spot! Don't forget to get back in time for your table! If you want, you can go around the side – on some days they serve coffee outside and you can sit at a table and enjoy a pleasant conversation while waiting – hang on to your cup and bring it in when your table is ready and you won?t be charged for another cup inside!

This is a must stop for all who come to Door County. You really feel like you have arrived in the Door when you are sipping a nice cup of coffee in the beautiful, wooded dining room, with country charm and pane glass windows looking out to the cottages in back! They remodeled the dining room in Spring 2000, with nice soft, mustard-colored walls above the wood wainscoting, and have all new tables and chairs, and burgundy floral curtains! So if your kids were used to coloring the place mats here, you may find the crayons have disappeared to protect the new tables a bit!

We continue to be impressed with the White Gull Inn, and dine here as frequently as we can. The food is always delicious, interesting and consistently good. There's no other place quite like the White Gull Inn!  We return time and time again, and will continue to do so!  Stop in and tell them that DoorCountyNavigator.com sent you!
