L/D, Fish boils
The Viking Grill in Ellison Bay claims to be the home of the original Door County fish boil, which began back in 1961. But you will find lots more here too. This is an historical restaurant in Door County, and it serves family food in a simple atmosphere.
Open year-round, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. We have dined here several times, and the chili and soups are terrific, as are the 1/3 pound cheeseburgers and plenty of other fare.
Breakfast!
Breakfasts include just about any kind of omelet you can think of, as well as oatmeal, corned beef hash, Swedish pancakes. buttermilk pancakes, biscuits and gravy and a ton more. There are plenty of creative egg combinations like Hunter's Hash, which includes 2 eggs with toast, hash browns with sautéed onions, green peppers, ham and cheddar cheese. Rib-eye and eggs? Sure! You can even get their very own Egg-Vik-Muffin, which is egg, ham and cheese on a grilled English muffin.
Have Lunch!
Buffalo Chicken Wraps, B.L.T. Wraps, Mexican Wraps, Veggie Wraps and even a Moo Wrap. A Moo Wrap? Yep - it's roast beef, lettuce and tomato, cheddar cheese, black olives all topped with a "Viking" sauce. Or get chicken strips, a cod or shrimp plate, or other items from their children's menu. This is a family-friendly place - the kids are welcomed. Lots of other lunch sandwiches are available from grilled corned beef and Swiss, chicken salad, steak sandwiches, perch sandwiches and way too many more to name.
Dinners
Dinners include soup or salad and a potato (plenty of choices) from farm fries to potatoes salad. You can find fried whitefish or Atlantic or Lake perch, Walleye Pike. or a Great Lakes Combo! Lots of meats too from rib-eyes, pork chops, chicken, country-fried steaks and hot beef or turkey.
This is real food, made by real people, in a very simple old-time restaurants, where locals and visitors eat alike.
The Fish Boils
From mid-May through October, you will find the Viking Grill boiling up fish for your delight every night. Master boiler, Dan Peterson, has owned the Viking Grill since 1984, and is a Baileys Harbor and Door County native. We sat out back where the fish boil takes place and had a nice chat with Dan. The fish boils are as much a show as they are a dinner. It is indeed a fun thing to watch how the kettle is prepared, the fish and ingredients thrown in and the fire managed to perfection. We dined out back long before we introduced ourselves to Dan, and the fish boil was excellent.
The Viking Grill also has a lounge where you can order mixed drinks, wine and domestic and imported beer as well.
Get stuff to go.
