Casey’s, a long time tradition in Egg Harbor, was purchased once again in Spring 2008. This is a totally new iteration of this historic dining spot, as the bar-b-que and smokehouse approach takes over. A huge smoker is around back, and the ribs and other delights are waiting for you to arrive! We are thrilled the new Casey’s is here! The new owners, Matt and Regan, also own Pelletier’s in Fish Creek – so they have lots of restaurant experience. Matt is the Master Boiler at Pelletier’s, having about 25 years experience conducting fish boils (a genuine Door County treat – try it)!
Well, we had to sit down, dine and try out the new menu and the new Casey’s! Open for lunch and dinner, the menu is changing and growing. You might find offerings like BBQ smoked brisket, Southern style BBQ ribs, smoked chicken or a smoked pork loin. You might find a nice t-bone steak, a broiled whitefish or lake perch too. Something for every taste. They have some sandwiches too, for lunch, and full dinners in the evening. Dinners include a homemade corn bread and a couple of sides for you to select: for example, select from cole slaw, mac ‘ n’ cheese, pork & beans, corn nuggets, potato salad, or French fries. Our DinnersWell, I had to try the smoked BBQ ribs. Now, if you have had BBQ ribs before, you may be used to the fall-off-the-bone dinner ribs – boiled and very tender, and they literally fall off the bone when prompted with a fork or knife. Smoked ribs, which take hours and hours to smoke, are NOT the fall-off-the bone kind. They are the coaxing-off-the-bone kind, but they are bursting with smoked flavor and oh so good! The sauce was excellent, and tasted original – tangy and a perfect compliment to the smoked flavor of the meat. I had creamy cole slaw and potato salad as my sides, and both were good. I was tempted to mix a little of the BBQ sauce in with my potatoes – next time!
The ambience is about the same as it was last year – the knotty pine walls in the bar area and dining room still grace the rooms as they have for decades. A new window in the dining room opens the room up a bit to the main road; and expect paper napkins and placemats – good for ribs. Also, in summer, some picnic tables might be out around back – which gives you a view of the tree-tops and Egg Harbor. You can get your order “to-go” and sit out back. Very nice. This is a great new rendition to the Egg Harbor dining scene and something very new for the area with the smokehouse and BBQ motif. We loved it, and we will return. Bar is also opened late at night – so stop in and say hello, have a cool one and enjoy! We are there sometimes in the evenings during summer! We think you will enjoy the new Casey’s! So try them out, and tell them, please, that DoorCountyNavigator.com sent you!
