We spoke with the owners and a tour guide at Bay Shore Outdoor Store!
There are several types of kayak tours you can participate in.
- Bay Shore offers what they call a “Coastal Adventure” - this is a beginner and family friendly tour, in tandem kayaks. Your guide will provide basic kayaking instructions while telling you about Door County’s ecology and history. A 3 – 4 hour tour, this is a fun one for all!
- “Sea Kayaking 101” offers more in-depth instruction, all while you enjoy the rugged shorelines of Door County. 3 – 4 hour tour.
- “Sunset Tour” – well, if you can take in a gorgeous Door County sunset from a tandem kayak out in Eagle Harbor (Ephraim), wow! You can do that on this tour! This is about a 2 hour tour.
- A "Sturgeon Bay Tour" which is a half-day tour in southern Door County along the shoreline of beautiful Sturgeon Bay.
- "Cave Point Tour" Meets at Cave Point County Park on Door County's Lake Michigan shoreline, where you will see rare sea caves that thousands of years of erosion have carved into the Door Peninsula.
Or you can rent canoes or kayaks on your own. From, recreational kayaks, to light touring kayaks, to tandem recreational kayaks and canoes, to performance light touring kayaks or canoes – you can get it all right here. I can tell you, there is nothing like seeing Door County from the water, and a kayak tour is an awesome way to do it.
Bay Shore Outdoor Store gets a lot of repeat customers and families (ages 10 and up). They can even customize a tour for you, and have taken out as many as 24 people at a time!
