DOOR COUNTY WINTER WONDERLAND TOUR
Dates of event: February 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th March 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th
Pickup is county-wide between 9:15 and 10 AM.  Trolley guests will tour/taste at an award winning winery, followed by a cozy sleigh ride through the Door’s most wintry landscapes. Top it off with a fireside lunch at the romantic White Gull Inn. Call 920-868-1100 for reservations. $54 per person (plus tax). FAIRFIELD WINTER ART EXHIBIT STACIA DICK-SCHUSTER: SYMBIOSIS – STURGEON BAY
Dates of event: 1/9/09 – 2/26/09
At Fairfield Center for Contemporary Art.
Stacia Dick-Schuster, a Door County based artist will host an opening reception for her new exhibition in the lower-level 242 Gallery at 6:30 PM, January 9th. Guests may enjoy refreshments as they visit with the artist and view her work. Symbiosis comprises a series of pieces that reflect the discordant relationship between nature and society. The collection of acrylics and mixed media is a visual journal of that relationship. For info, call 920-746-0001.

EXHIBIT -THE BIG READ: A TOM SAWYER EXPERIENCE- STURGEON BAY
At Fairfield Center for Contemporary Art, 242 Michigan St.
Dates of event: 1/22/2009 To 3/14/2009
The Big Read returns to Door County for a second year, this time featuring Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. This exhibit, displayed in four sections, reflects the 1876 classic’s continuing resonance with the public and its ongoing impact on contemporary art, from the earliest years of the 20th century to present day.

MILLER ART MUSEUM EXHIBIT – STURGEON BAY
EXHIBIT-DENISE FLEMING
Dates of event: 1/24/2009 To 4/14/2009
A great family event. Denise Fleming, a Young Children’s Book Illustrator and 1994 Caldecott Honor Award winner.  The exhibit displays 80 original art works in a playful park-like setting with fun art activities, 12 of her books to read, puppet play and more! FOLK CONCERT SERIES AT THE WHITE GULL INN - FISH CREEK

BOOK DISCUSSION - THE ADVENTURES OF TOM SAWYER – STURGEON BAY

2 PM at Fairfield Center for Contemporary Art.  The Fairfield hosts “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” book discussion groups in the Main Gallery.  These discussions are free and open to the public.  Call 920-746-0001.

22nd  ANNUAL FISH CREEK WINTER FESTIVAL - FISH CREEK
Dates of events: 2/06/09 – 2/08/09
Fish Creek will host a weekend of fun and frivolity. Winter Fest activities will feature something to delight every age. This year’s activities include a parade, fireman’s pancake breakfast, the always-popular chili cook-off, family games, sleigh rides, wine tastings, candlelight ski and Kites Over the Bay.  Peninsula Art School will serve up homemade soup in handcrafted pottery bowls and the Door Community Auditorium will host the now infamous 5th Annual Door County Idol.  New this year: Dog sled rides and a gathering around small bonfires Friday evening!  Call 800-577-1880

We have attended several times,  and with children!  This is a fun event with lots for the kids. This is a fun Winter event, with lots of good eating and fun events – check for specific details this year.

LIONS CLUB ANNUAL FISH DERBY ON WASHINGTON ISLAND
Date of Event: 2/07/09 – 2/15/09
A week long fishing competition offering cash prizes for the top catches to those who take on the challenges of the frozen waters of Lake Michigan. A family fun luncheon and famous Bingo, held at the historic and famous Nelson’s Hall & Pub for the fisherman and non-fishing visitors and friends. Call for details. 920-847-2179.

DOOR COUNTY TROLLEY PROGRESSIVE DINNER OUTING
Dates of Event: 2/07/09, 2/21/09
Pick up at 5 PM at Orchard Country Winery
Trolley guests will experience unique stops for hors d’oeuvres/cocktails at a surprise location, an elegant dinner at The Inn at Kristofer’s, and a decadent dessert at a romantic inn. CANDLELIGHT SKI – FISH CREEK

At Peninsula State Park.  5:30 -8 PM. Ski gently rolling one-mile, candle-lit trail through forest and meadows.  Bonfire with refreshments at the warming shelter. Park sticker required, donation suggested.  Info, call 920-868-3258.

5th ANNUAL DOOR COUNTY IDOL CONTEST – FISH CREEK
Date of Event:  2/07/09
At the Door Community Auditorium (Top of the Hill in Fish  Creek) beginning at 7:00 PM.  Competing for the title of Door County Idol, some of the peninsula’s most talented young singers between the ages of 15-19 will perform for a panel of three judges. The audience will actively participate in voting for the Idol’s winning contestant. Tickets, $8 adults, $5 students. 920-868-2728.

Peninsula Music Festival’s February Fest
Dates of Event:  2/08/09, 2/15/09, 2/22/09
The Peninsula Music Festival will once again present the February Fest, three chamber concerts at different locations, in three weeks during the month of February.  Each concert is on Sunday at 3:00 PM.
On February 8th, the first concert at The Peninsula School of Art in Fish Creek, features The Rose Ensemble, a vocal consort specializing in early Renaissance music.  On February 15th, The ZYLYEO Quartet performs at the Ephraim Moravian Church.  February Fest closes on February 22nd with a piano recital by Frederick Moyer at Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran church in Ellison Bay. Each concert features about 75 minutes of music with a reception to follow. Seating is general admission. Tickets: $30. A 3 concert ticket package is available.  Call 920-854-4060 for details.

ISADOORA THEATRE PRESENTS “SHE LOVES ME” – EGG HARBOR

THE LETTERMEN IN CONCERT – FISH CREEK

“FIRE AND ICE” WEEKEND- STURGEON BAY

A city wide event, the day is filled with ice carvers turning massive blocks of ice into works of art. The evening is filled with hot entertainment and dinner/dance at Stone Harbor Resort. For more information call 800-301-6695.

CANDLELIGHT SKI, HIKE AND SNOWSHOE – ELLISON BAY
Date of Event: 2/14/09
At Newport State Park.  6 –9 PM.  Experience Newport State Park in a different light. Ski, hike, or snowshoe on a 1-mile trail lit by homemade candles. A bonfire, refreshments and lit grills will greet participants at the end of the trail. Meet at the picnic area by parking lot 3, near the Fern/Europe Bay Trail. 5:30 - 8:30 PM.   Park sticker required. Info, call 920-854-2500.

ISLAND PLAYERS PRESENT  “I HATE HAMLET” – WASHINGTON ISLAND

At Karly’s Bar 7 PM Fri-Sat, 2 PM Sun. Comedy by Paul Rudnick. Popular TV actor Andrew Rally is offered a chance to play Hamlet in Central Park. Andrew rents a NY apartment, which happens to have been John Barrymore’s apartment many years before, when he played Hamlet. Barrymore’s ghost appears and presses Andrew to accept the part and fulfill his actor’s destiny. He ends up teaching Andrew not only how to act, but how to love. Bluegrass is at its heart, American roots music at its best when performed by an ensemble of musicians performing on acoustic stringed instruments. The Highland Road band members perform bluegrass, a bit of country and a smattering of folk music on a variety of instruments including the banjo, mandolin, bass, and guitar.  Starts at 7:00 PM. DOOR COUNTY WALLEYES FOR TOMORROW FISHING DERBYSTURGEON BAY
Date of Event: 2/28/09
At the Wave Pointe Marina in Sturgeon Bay.  Get an early start!  4 AM - 6PM. Door County Walleyes for Tomorrow/Dave Pagels Memorial Ice Fishing Derby. A fun-filled day highlighted by a fishing tournament which ends at 2pm. Raffles for artwork, fishing supplies, hunting equipment, kids events and live music.
